Early Learning Domains
Big Blue Marble Academy curriculum incorporates research, theory, and play-based approaches to learning. Informed by states’ learning standards and early childhood best practices, our programs center on established early learning domains that contribute to a well-rounded learning experience at every age. These domains include:
- Approaches to Play and Learning
Fostering Curiosity, Imagination, Problem-Solving, and Persistence
How a child approaches learning affects how they learn. At BBMA we spark a lifelong love of learning at the earliest of ages through play-based experiences. Children learn how to focus their attention and persist through challenges as part of play, ultimately developing an “I Can” attitude that supports a healthy growth mindset.
- Cognitive Development
Supporting Critical Thinking and Reasoning and Creative Expression
Children are naturally curious and our programs provide unlimited opportunities for them to pursue their interests. Learning activities can introduce young minds to STEAM concepts through playing with building blocks for future engineers, sequencing of patterns to introduce mathematical concepts, and outdoor play incorporating earth science and scientific principles such as cause and effect. Creative expression also comes to life through dramatic play, storytelling, and music.
- Communication and Language Development
Discovering How to Communicate Ideas and Feelings and Building Foundations for Reading and Writing
The number of words children understand and use builds a strong foundation for literacy and school-readiness. At BBMA, we introduce children of all ages to new vocabulary through songs, fingerplays, books, stories, and conversations. We connect these new language skills to communicating ideas and feelings to others. Through our language enrichment program students also have the opportunity to expand their vocabulary to other languages in Spanish, French, or Mandarin.
- Physical Development
Strengthening Motor Development, Self-Care Mastery, and Safety Awareness
From the moment children enter our schools, they enjoy a welcoming, safe environment that gives them the freedom to explore, play, and learn. Incorporated into our daily curriculum are opportunities to develop skills in safety awareness and self-care. Cultural physical fitness experiences such as yoga and sign language contribute to gross and fine motor skills as well.
- Social and Emotional Development
Developing a Sense of Self, Understanding Feelings, and Friendships
Our curriculum is developed to support cognitive and physical development as well as essential social and emotional development that contribute to kinder-readiness. Integrated in all our learning experiences are opportunities for students to learn how to get their needs met in appropriate ways, how to understand their feelings and feelings of others, and how to develop relationships. BBMA’s signature Heart Projects also introduce students to service learning and their ability to help make a difference in their world.
